Why is celebrating successes at work so important?

Do you ever reflect on your successes at work? Do you ever reward yourself for a good performance? Do you know that you have to push and pull on all sides to reach your goal? And that you finally completed it successfully? But then you immediately move on to your next goal? In other words, do you celebrate your successes at work?

At Treams, we have a quarterly wrap-up. In it, we evaluate with all employees our goals and set new goals for the next period. We discuss how we celebrated our past successes, and how we will celebrate our new successes. And I too catch myself over and over again that I haven't given enough thought to my achieved goals.

After all, we, as humble Dutchmen, are quick to think, 'Okay super. On to the next ...'. We keep running without stopping. And so do I. After all, work never stops. Actually quite a pity, because celebrating successes at work makes our work life a bit more fun every time. So: no matter how big the goal is: celebrating success is extremely important.

Win-win

I hear you thinking, "I have enough to do, what good is celebrating successes anyway? Well, a lot. Success motivates. By rewarding yourself, you challenge yourself to keep going, to grow and develop. Celebrating success also creates a better atmosphere within your team/organization, which leads to more productivity , which leads to better results and thus even more success. And so the circle is complete. Win-win situation thus.

How do you celebrate successes?

Of course, there are many different ways to celebrate successes at work. Some like to do it in a big way, while others prefer to celebrate small and intimate. For example, a few weeks ago we spontaneously took the whole team to the Efteling amusement park as a reward for our hard work. But a reward can also be small. We have 3 tips for you to celebrate successes:

1. Consider in advance how you want to celebrate your success.

After all, you also figure out in advance what you want to accomplish, so why not how you want to celebrate? Reward yourself with a gift, something sweet, a day out, a party or something you've actually needed for a long time.

2. Every success counts

No matter how small or large your goals are: every success counts. Did you land a client that is relatively small? Were you able to completely tick off your checklist for this week? Great! Those, too, are successes.

3. Reward yourself when achieving successes

You have different types of rewards. We wrote a blog about this earlier. Basically, it doesn't matter how you reward yourself. For example, a cake is relatively inexpensive, but the gesture is huge. We could give you a list of ideas for celebrating successes, but it's even more fun to come up with these ideas yourself. We'll give you a little starter, it's up to you to add to this list:

  • Pop the champagne!
  • Take a day(s) off
  • Treat yourself to a nice book
  • Go out to lunch with the team
  • ...
  • ...
  • ....

Good luck, and don't forget: Life is a party, you just have to hang the garlands yourself.
