How do I find talent within my organization?

Within HR, there is hardly any other topic that gets more attention than talent management. But where is that 'gold' within your organization? And how do I put that little man in the right place? In my opinion, the knowledge of employees is still underused. That has to change. But how? I will explain it to you.

Get rid of your feelings

Oh? That's pretty resolute, you'll think... It turns out that almost all decisions in a person's life are based on your gut feeling. And so are decisions in the workplace. Do you always work hard, always finish your work neatly and on time and get along well with your colleagues and supervisor(s)? Then chances are that your manager sees talent in you. That's just how it works in the human mind. But it works slightly differently in the search for talent. Try not listening to your feelings. Look for facts and figures. What is the employee in question good at? Where does it show? Can you back this up with concrete examples? In this way you can ensure that everyone is in the right place to develop his/her talent.

Motivation

A topic inextricably linked to finding talent is motivation. We wrote a blog about this topic before . Do your employees have good motivation? Do they work with great enthusiasm? Then there's definitely a chance that's where your talent lies. A global survey by Fortune found that at 85% of organizations, employee motivation drops off sharply after they have been employed for six months. When they start work, they are very enthusiastic, but after that, this enthusiasm declines rapidly. How can you change this process? Challenge your employees. Let them set their own goals and give each other feedback. Make working fun! In fact, research shows that factors such as money contribute little to employee motivation. Boring work remains boring work. The best way to motivate employees is to make sure each person is put in the right place. After all, everyone wants the job of their dreams, where they can perform at their best.

Questions, questions, questions

To ensure that each employee is put in the right place, it is important to include each one in this process. What does the employee think? Where does he/she think his/her talents lie? What does he/she enjoy doing most? I'll give you a list of questions you can ask him/her:

  1. What energizes you in your work?
  2. What do others ask you for help with?
  3. What do others see as your talent?
  4. What comes easily to you?
  5. What sets you apart from others?
