A digital platform where employees can work on their own development, goals and feedback works better than two performance reviews a year, is the experience of the Eindhoven-based start-up Treams.
"Friendship, happiness: human values are increasingly important in work. Just like creativity. But the existing assessment forms hardly pay attention to these," says Iris Zonneveldt (29), founder and director of Treams. "Traditionally, companies work with ready-made assessment forms. Twice a year you get a chat with your boss. But if you want your people to perform well, to get the best out of themselves, to have fun in their work and to be motivated to contribute to the goals and strategy of the company, two meetings a year are not enough," says Zonneveldt. When managing talent, attention and appreciation are the best tools, she believes. "The manager is very relevant, but in a coaching and stimulating form."
The Eindhoven start-up founded in 2012 under the name Treams develops software that allows any company to set up an online management platform, why all employees get their own account. Companies are organizing themselves differently; they are increasingly working with a network of teams. This also requires a different way of developing, rewarding, managing and encouraging talent, Treams believes. Therefore, the company developed a digital platform on which everyone in the company can give and receive attention. "Treams provides software for performance, feedback, learning and development. Whether you want to grow, merge, consolidate or innovate as a company: you have to make sure your people are hooked on the strategy. Only when employees are engaged in the collective ambition can they give their best," explained Zonneveldt. "With our technology, we make performance, learning and development more fun. Everyone who sets themselves a goal works hard to achieve it. You want to share that progress and make your achievements visible. That's all possible with our platform. In our app, you can also show your appreciation by giving a colleague feedback and even sending a gift. In fact, our online tools help you have better conversations offline and give attention at the right times. As a manager, you can give spontaneous feedback to your team through the digital platform and show that you care about your people."
Grow hard
Treams' approach is catching on so well that the young company now has dozens of clients and eight employees. "We are a fast-growing company with an international team. I only hire people I would want to work for myself and who are better than me. We know from each other what we are good at. That's why we can grow so fast as a company. When everyone does what they are energized by and can go full throttle, you grow harder and perform better."
