'Talent management really isn't rocket science'

She is bursting with energy and has a keen eye on the future of HR. The floor is given to successful young businesswoman CEO Iris Zonneveldt. "Every day I speak to (HR) directors about their HR strategy. We work for explosively growing innovators but also for large, complex organizations. Almost all of them are very aware of the talent in their organization. It is inspiring to see what companies are doing for employees. At the same time, it is disappointing how little insight this provides, and how dull and fragmented these tools often still are. Forms, papers, Excel documents: nothing to get excited about. Learning, development and performance make more sense when they are integrated. For example, if you set a (development) goal, you do a lot to achieve it. You want to make that visible, share progress and celebrate achievements. That fun factor is still far too often missing. With technology, you really make performance, learning and development more fun!"

How do you make HR effective and strategic?

"Employees step into the company's vision. This is often disappointing once they get to work: the picture on the outside does not match the one on the inside. The employee journey is not thought out and is not inspiring. Bummer! It's not that difficult at all. The basis of talent development is attention and appreciation. Digital is a great tool to help with that. In our app, you can show your appreciation by giving a colleague feedback. The highest score gets you a personal card on your desk. Online tools help you have better conversations offline and give attention at the right times. As a manager, spontaneously give feedback to your entire team. Show that you care about your people. When I am proud of my club I let them know. A card is a nice confirmation. Conversely, I give them tips, and they me, when there is something to learn. We are very open about that so everyone knows where they stand."

What is your HR strategy?

"We are a fast-growing company with a very diverse and international team. I only hire people I would want to work for myself and who are better than me. With us, there is one of everyone and that makes our team powerful. Everyone knows what our mission is and what our goals are. Each employee is in the lead in his/her area of expertise. We know from each other what we are good at. That's why we can grow so fast as a company. The key is: when everyone does what they are energized by and can go full throttle, you grow harder and perform better. Talent management really isn't rocket science: put fun, talent and drive at the center, and give the employee all the tools to get going themselves. Off to the moon!"

What does Treams do?

"Treams provides software for performance, feedback, learning and development . Everyone in the organization has an account based on his/her role. We measure everything that happens and that provides valuable insights. Implementing software by definition means continuous learning: play, learn, adapt . And that's cool! Our analytics ensure that our customers can always take the next step. Going live is always a starting point. Whether the goal is to bring about a culture change, to grow, merge, consolidate or innovate: HR must ensure that people are hooked into the strategy. Only when employees are engaged in that collective ambition can they give their best.
