Performance management

What is performance management?

Performance management is a process that centres on people and goals. It is about enabling people to perform as effectively as possible so they can achieve the best possible results. As an organisation, performance management means steering on strengths and talents. What matters most is that people believe in the organisation's vision, mission and goals and are able and willing to give it everything they have. It is crucial that the focus is not on weaknesses, problems and obstacles, but on strengths and possibilities. Get performance management right and it helps you prepare for change and creates more engagement across the organisation.

Goal setting and performance management

The world is changing constantly, and faster all the time. The economy is doing well. New companies are springing up everywhere and many established ones are growing rapidly. Customers are more in charge than they have ever been, and employees have to find a way to sell their product without endlessly pitching and pushing. Every organisation wants the best people in the field. Do you have them? Then the trick is keeping them. They have more power too, and they ask for a lot. Research by Gallup shows that 87% of millennials would rather trade salary for opportunities to grow and develop. Performance management helps you keep people. That is why it is important that an employee's growth opportunities are at the centre of it. The working relationship between employees and their managers, and the setting of goals, are therefore crucial. What are your goals for the period ahead? What do you need to do to reach them? Where do you want to be in five years? Which competencies will you need for that? To motivate people, it is important that their personal goals connect to the organisation's goals. So give people the responsibility to formulate their own goals on the basis of the organisational and team goals.

What does performance management deliver?

When people are allowed to set their own personal goals, it creates more engagement with the organisation. That engagement in turn creates more employee happiness, productivity and better performance. Successful performance management lets managers respond better to what employees and customers need, and all of this ultimately leads to more growth for teams and the organisation, satisfied customers, less absence, lower costs and more time.

How can a performance management system help?

It is no longer acceptable for people to go through life on autopilot. The risk of burnout, demotivated employees and losing your best people is simply too great. In a performance management system like Treams , people can set and update goals at any moment, give each other continuous ( 360-degree ) feedback aimed at making each other better, and get a clear view of their personal development plan. That way they know where they stand and where their development potential lies. Managers, too, know at any moment where their people are and what they need in order to develop further. It makes growth, enjoyment at work and learning from each other a reality.
