The 1:1 module, built for the manager's messy Monday
Managers are the heart of performance management. So it only makes sense that the software built to support them fits around their busy weeks instead of the annual cycle. That is why the 1:1 module exists: one place per team member, AI-suggested talking points before you walk in, and a transcript and summary written for you afterwards. So your week goes into growing people, not into writing up what happened.
We asked sixty managers about their performance managent needs.
Over the past year we sat down with more than sixty people who use Treams. Super Users, managers, their colleagues.
The pattern was consistent. HR and managers are asking performance management software for two different things. HR needs the cycle to run: complete, on time, visible across the organisation. A manager needs to walk into a conversation knowing what happened since the last one. Traditional performance tools are built for compliance, which is why they often miss the mark on actually helping managers out.
You can see the workaround in how managers behave. They keep notes in a loose document. They have folders in their mail for the things they want to remember about someone. More and more of them open an AI tool of their own to help them prepare for a conversation. None of that is laziness. It is what people do when the software covers the reporting and leaves the conversation to them.
So the need was clear. The conversation needed its own place in the product, built around how a manager's week runs.
Performance does not improve through better forms
It improves through better conversations. In the ordinary week, in the two minutes between meetings, in the 1:1 that actually happens.
That is where the difference gets made, and it is also the first thing to go. Almost nobody skips a 1:1 on purpose. A busy week comes, then another, and the conversation moves to next Tuesday. Then it moves again. By December you are reconstructing a year instead of steering peformance.
Managing is rarely a manager's only job. The meeting with the least visible consequence is the one that gets moved. That is how teams drift. Not dramatically. Quietly.
So we rebuilt the notes module from scratch. From 20 April our new 1:1 module is live: one place where every conversation, note and observation about a team member comes together.
One view per person
No more single long list of notes. Every team member now has their own place, and everything about them collects there. The observation you wanted to write down on Thursday. The mail from a client that said something worth remembering. The Teams message where a colleague flagged how a project went.
Collected in one place, it stops being scattered trivia and becomes the context that makes your next conversation a real one instead of a catch-up.
A rhythm you set once
Set the cadence and Treams puts the 1:1s in your calendar and your team member's. No separate invitations, no forgotten appointments. Treams keeps track of the rhythm and reminds you when a conversation is coming up.
A rhythm you set once survives a week that goes sideways. The reminder is the small part.
Prep that is already done
Open the conversation and Treams suggests talking points drawn from what is going on for that person: recent notes, the last 1:1, the actions still open. Two minutes of reading rather than an hour on a Friday afternoon.
Treat the suggestions as a starting point. You stay in charge of what gets said, because the judgement is the part only you can bring. AI gathers the context. It does not decide what the conversation is about.
Record it, and stay in the room
You can record a 1:1 and have Treams turn it into text, then a summary you can edit before you keep it.
What you get back is your attention. You can stop half-listening while you type, and the agreements are still there afterwards without anyone reconstructing them from memory a fortnight later.
Recording is optional and always visible to the person you are speaking with.
Outlook and Teams, one click away
A mail comes in with feedback about a team member. A Teams message says something you will want in October. With the outlook, teams and slack integrations you push either one into the right profile in Treams without copying and pasting.
The daily work happens in your inbox and your chat. That is where Treams meets you.
What HR finally gets to see
You no longer have to ask managers whether the conversations are happening. You can see which teams have a steady rhythm, which have gone quiet, and where to offer help before it arrives as a resignation.
That is a different conversation to have with your board. Not "we completed 94% of the cycle", but "here is where management is working, and here is where it needs support".
